I guess around this area I'm known for my travel adventures . I'm not that experienced of a traveler and there is still most of our world I have not seen . Usually I end up having some very far out adventures when I do travel .I have though traveled far more the the majority of my neighbors .

My preferred method of travel is the ocean or marine travel this is due in my case to me being a fishing captain so I feel at home on the ocean . Id much rather weather a storm at sea then being on a plane that hits a very serious air pocket . A while ago while returning from a trip to the Dominican Republic in which i sailed there and returned home by plane . The plane I was on took a sever drop in altitude so severe that most the people on the plane started screaming or crying . I was not one of the screamers but I'll admit it did make me nervous . On a boat now it would take much more then your average experience to attempt to make me nervous .26 years fishing the north Atlantic in winter months I suspect has made me experience most of the worst marine travel can throw at you and with my experience I truly feel safer on a ocean then in a plane. I do air travel often but have never got so I truly enjoy the ride .

The secret to having a good travel adventure in my opinion is to go outside of the norm . I never travel to tourist resorts but instead i will pick a small place and sail right in the middle of a local exotic culture .I really don't have much interest in Just setting on a beach or by a pool in a tourist hotel . I usually go out in the real world into local hotels and meet local friends of what ever culture I'm visiting .

This will usually lead to real adventure and learning . I'm often invited as quest into homes to have real local cuisine . I have never run into too much danger as of yet in this type travel .I believe I have met some wonderful friends from other cultures in this type travel ,it truly does surprise you how well we get along when we get to truly know each other without governments and other factors involved . Many times people that you would suspect are not good people turn out to be very good people after you get to know them in their own communities .

I'd never go back to organized travel to tourist type resorts to me you just do not get the culture experience you get from actually just wading into some foreign small town and meeting friends from complete different cultures . After experiencing this type travel and seeing how many nice people are out there you wonder how this world ever found reason for so many wars . We truly are more alike after getting to know each other then most of us suspect .

It all reminds me of the song Christmas in the trenches where a truce was called from killing each other between the Germans and English . They stopped killing each other for a day to have a party together and was surprised by how much they liked each other . Then after the vacation settled back to war again .

My advise is for the best form of travel see the real world . Be careful though as I'm sure there is bad guys out there some where . I personally have not met many yet though . Just good people is mostly what I find .

Off the beaten path type destinations I think are also something to be desired . I'm not sure where my next big trip will be . Might even be some small town in Africa ,time will tell .
