Call me old-fashioned, but for a special Valentine's dinner, I think the man should pay. It doesn't have to be an elaborate dinner at a five star restaurant, but women love to be romanced on Valentine's Day. Women also like to receive a nice card from their boyfriend or significant other, maybe some flowers, a little box of chocolates, a piece of jewelry, and a romantic dinner. Okay, so maybe not ALL of the above, but women like to know that their men appreciate them enough to do something special on Valentine's Day (or any day!).

Throughout the year, my boyfriend and I take turns buying dinner and treating each other to little mini-vacations or weekend get-aways, but Valentine's Day is different. If the man can't afford to buy nice gifts or spend a lot of money on a Valentine's dinner, then he's going to have to use his imagination to make the day special for the woman he cares about. Valentine's Day isn't about money or impressing her friends with fancy bouquets. It's about letting her know you care and that you want her to be happy.

If money isn't a problem for the man, then he should make reservations at a restaurant where they are known for good service and a romantic atmosphere. If you don't have reservations, then you likely won't be able to get a table in such a restaurant on such a busy holiday. Be sure to make your reservations early. There's nothing less romantic than driving from restaurant to restaurant only to be told that they are completely booked. If you're able to get a reservation at a nice restaurant on Valentine's Day, your date is sure to be impressed.

For the majority of men who don't have a couple hundred dollars available to be spent on a single dinner, then you should try for a reservation at a mid-priced Italian restaurant. Italian food is typically not too expensive, but the restaurants almost always have a romantic atmosphere with soft music playing in the background.

You might want to avoid the family style restaurants such as buffets and steak houses since they will almost certainly be overcrowded, understaffed, and noisy.

For those of you who simply don't have the funds for a restaurant style dinner, then you do have options. Some of the most memorable meals I've shared with my boyfriend were at home. In fact, I appreciate a meal that my boyfriend has cooked for me much more than when he takes me to a restaurant. It takes time and consideration to prepare a meal at home and it shows me that he cares. A man with a good imagination can make even cold macaroni salad seem romantic if he sets the right atmosphere.

If you want to prepare a romantic dinner at home, then make sure that you have the right atmosphere. I recommend setting the table with a nice tablecloth, candles, maybe some flowers as a centerpiece or even a few small flowers arranged inside a water glass can be nice. If you aren't a good cook, then go to your local grocery store deli and find a few items already prepared. Just be sure to arrange them nicely on the plate when you go to serve them.

Where ever you take your date on Valentine's Day, the important thing is to make her feel special and let her know that you care. That's what women are really looking for on Valentine's Day. We want you to show us that we matter enough for you to take time out of your busy schedule to make us feel loved.
