Personal testimonies on belief

Our Youth Sunday at our church sparked my family's and my interest.

This annual service focuses on "What a friend we have in Jesus...and each other". The youth in our congregation gave wonderful, beneficial testimonials! Many were deeply moving and inspirational. Adults should also testify of their experiences in the church and the world, perhaps another time, though.

There were many Christian songs and videos played. It was a good idea to play the videos and record them ahead of time, as many were deeply moving and emotional testimonies.

I am particularly drawn to a few favorite scriptures mentioned. Our pastor told a stirring story about a young person that gave his life for his friends. This is not the first time I had heard of such a sacrifice. With certain friends, I could envision making such a sacrifice.

On the contrary, it is much better to live for and with your friends. You can watch them grow in in their faith in Jesus and even help them. Praying with them and for them is not out of the ordinary. Just get comfortable with this. Practice and admit that maybe you are shy about that. These kids definitely weren't shy about their testimonials or their shining talents.

It is acceptable and pleasing in God's sight to care deeply about and love those who are not "related" to you, so to speak. We are all members of His family.

Paul in the bible, and others such as David and Jonathan demonstrated this unconditional love for others. Paul's earthly friends stuck by him for a time, but in the end Jesus was His ultimate strength and lifelong friend.

David and Jonathan should not have been friends if you view this in an earthly way. David was next in line for the throne but really Jonathan should have gotten it by custom. Jonathan "loved David as himself." Even stood up to his father, Saul to protect David. I do not know too many friends that would go through what he did for someone who was supposed to be a rival. God deepened this friendship and wrote it down as an example for all of us.

This isn't always a warm and fuzzy feeling and actually could be painful and self-sacrificial at times. But it is always worth it.

All close friendships today should strive to hold God's power, strength and love within them. There is no bond like a bond in Christ. These are kindred spirits!

God Bless all Christian friends and these kids for sharing their lives and love with us!
