How to unlock your innate potential

is happening right now is preparing me for my journey through life. All has its place and purpose.

Ahhh, what a sigh of relief!

When you become attuned to living in the present moment, as opposed to always living in the past or dreaming of the future, you become acutely aware of the things from which you find enjoyment. And the majority of the time, these are the things which you are best at. Through my self-reflection, I started to remember that I have a creative side; that I love to read; to write; to design; to be surrounded by nature. All of which I had forgotten when I entered the world of adulthood, swept away by society's demands and expectations. A lot of us don't listen to what our own body and mind are telling us, because the demands of society keep us too busy and preoccupied to pay attention. It is these things that we should be investing more of our time in.

And there are some delightful side effects to devoting your time to your passions, namely, the eradication of such harmful feelings as jealousy, envy and judgment. Do you remember the last time you were feeling completely happy? Was your mind harboring negative thoughts about other people? Were you even thinking about anyone else? More than likely your answer is no, because when we are truly happy and at peace, we cease to think anywhere but within. Actually, we cease to even think and become content with just being. This is pure potentiality at its best. This is when we can take on the world and win.

All of this isn't to say that my journey is over. Far from it! I haven't even achieved half of my grandest dreams, but armed, as I am, with the knowledge that I'm already living the best part, my appetite to learn and experience life is ferocious. And it is reciprocal, because just as the world has many things to offer us, so do we to the world.

It would be wonderful if we, as a society, recognized that the world would be a better place if we were all working within our callings' (callings' in plural, because I believe we all have more than one). The psychologist whose passion is cooking would much better serve society by baking us a cake and infecting us with their glowing happiness. And the builder, who always seems to be solving peoples' problems, in turn, should be encouraged to go to school and study psychology. How wonderful if, from a young age, we were taught to explore our passions and gifts as they developed and changed throughout our lives.

But alas, the dream of a society that embraces the personal development of its participants is an ambitious one and we are certainly far from it! We therefore, have no choice but to go about unlocking our own innate potential by ourselves.

As I mentioned earlier, each and every person has to find their own way. For me, it was through understanding the joy of today rather than the dream of tomorrow. I found that when you stop trying to force a better future into your life, under the misconception that it will bring you happiness, a pathway opens up and you start to see a direction in your life that feels right. By listening to your instinct, and really learning who you are and what you have to offer to this world, opportunities start endlessly flowing into your life. All that's left is for you to go out and get them!
