Although I am a Christ - follower and a believer/worshiper of God I step back and ponder this thought from a different perspective. How is God worthy of worship? Honestly how is anything worthy of worship? Better yet, what even is worship? How can we worship? and most importantly the question at hand... Why do we worship God?
Worship is by definition - showing worth to something, or ascribing worth to something or someone for some particular reason.
People worship many things. I know people who worship money, because it buys stuff and in our world the more money you have the more power you have. People worship relationships or that special someone in there life. You can worship, music, family, fame, fortunes, television, laziness, celebrities. Most if not all of these are worshiped because of what they have done for you. Most people will tell you that this is why we worship God. When asked the question your typical answer is because he has saved us, or because he sent his son to die on the cross to pay the ransom for our sins. It could be that we worship God because he has allowed us to live another day, or to have a successful marriage or business. If you see the focus on all of these is worshiping God for things that he has done for us. (which we should be honestly thankful for)
Now let's step aside for a second, we will come back to this in a minute.
But who is God. Creator of the world, Lord of our lives, King of Kings, Emanuel, God with Us, Elohim, a supreme being up in the sky that occasionally looks down on us and grants us our wishes, perhaps a ruthless ruler who Lords over people controlling there actions and making them do what it is that they do. or perhaps He is perfection. The summation of Love, the essence of Truth, the light in a dark place. We have an option to either look on God as an entity that does stuff for us, or we can get passed all the things he has done and look to him because He is ultimately God.
So How is God worthy of Worship... why do we worship Him... because of who He is.
Think about it this way.. I have two analogies.. if you are a parent.. read the first paragraph.. if you aren't skip it because it will make no sense to you, instead skip to the next paragraph.
Parents, and the few of you who can't follow instructions, we all know that there are times that you can't stand your kids, and other times when you like them completely, but think this through. It is always nice to be told that you are loved by your children. But when is it better, right after you have done something for them, or just out of the blue because you are there parents and they love you. Of course it is the second one. God is the same way. When we worship him because he has done something it is not near as meaningful as worshiping him because he is God.
Now those of you that don't have kinds. Take a pet into mind. Think about dogs (because I don't like cats) They are loyal through and through, if you get upset at them they will come back to you they are completely loyal to you at all times(unless you are a bad pet owner, then me and you need to step out back) Your dog worships you because you are its master and you are you.
God is the same way.. he is worthy of our worship because he is God, our master, our parent, our Father. He does awesome things for us, and we should praise him for those things, but we worship him because of who he is.
