If there is meaning, then there is purpose. Do we have a purpose to fulfill? Can our lives have "meaning?" Of course, the answer is yes. I am sick and tired of hearing about life and what makes it great or better, why anything really matters. To be honest, I used to be one of those people, now I am just plain sick of it. We all have meaning and purpose, as much as we all deserve to be happy. Consequently, fulfilling one practically guarantees the other.
I see everyone playing their roles in society, whatever those roles they choose to be or feel obligated to do, for whatever reason. I'm sick of pretending. I am typically not a negative person, the world is better lived with joy and positive well-being, but who knows whats what anymore. People play their roles, sure, but everyone still looks lost; confused. I blame society, we throw so much at people all at once and expect them to know everything about everything. It's not going to happen; people's lives are best lived when they are lived simply, and how is that possible when we are dealing with credit cards, credit reports, mortgages, APR financing, 401K, medical insurance, dental insurance, car insurance, car payments, cost of living, food prices, gas prices, our children's needs...our needs. When does it all end? It doesn't, society expects us to know all about the religious and political issues of the world, on top of what it means to participate as an active citizen; don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with being an upright individual who stakes a positive claim in society, but does that mean we are making our lives one that is worthy of living? Maybe, maybe not. It shows how we are all connected to a greater whole on this planet we call home, but the truth of what matters lies within, not without. Every individual is as such because they are created as a unique being, in order to live different lives and strive for different things to bring more to the world around them.
If we all stuck to one way of life, we may as well have tin hearts and a fear of rusting in the rain. We are created as we are to have a purpose and to live with meaning in order to fulfill that purpose; whatever it may be. I mean, even Hitler had a purpose. It may not all be great, but it is what makes living on this Earth so monumental. We learn from the mistakes of ourselves and others, and strive to better that which we don't believe, we create goals and find what makes us happy; to live with meaning and fulfill a greater purpose. I don't know what my meaning is yet, but I do know that living without fulfilling it won't make my life one to remember. And is that not what we all wish to do with a life of meaning?-To leave a legacy uniquely our own?
