Before getting into the games, there is a theory why Nintendo with the Virtual Console. To me, the biggest theory that has to do with the ROMs being available all over the Internet with Rom sites and emulators available. Eventually, Nintendo realized that perhaps this could be a gold mine and people would want to play their old games albeit in emulation form or possibly new people who are curious about older games. It was a smart move to create it and there's a variety of systems with all the Nintendo Consoles, plus 2 of Sega's consoles being the Genesis and probably soon to be added Master System. There are also two off-brand consoles involved like Neo Geo and TurboGrafix 16 for example. If anything, the Virtual Console can just about satisfy any needs though if there was one item to improve on the Wii system is that it could use a Hard Drive to store more games.
Anyhow, there are games to get to it but mainly I'm going to be focusing on the systems like Nintendo or Sega, as I am most familiar in that genre. There are some really good ones out there and of course some that need to get out as well.
Ninja Gaiden series: Without a shadow of a doubt, if you are a fan of the Ninja Gaiden games from the NES Era, this is something to get. The 2nd one is a personal favorite but they're all good. If you want to be challenged, it would be these games that can challenge to no end. The 3rd one actually has to me the most difficult of the bunch. This one had limited continues and the game couldn't be beaten so easily. None of the games were easy at all though but pretty fun to play, had smooth controls. It would be best to use the Classic Controller.
Legend of Zelda: Instant classic is all that need to be said. Right now, there are 4 Zelda games that are out being the 1st 2 NES games, the Super Nintendo one, A Link to the Past, and the N64 Game Ocarina of Time. The only one that's not yet that I can think of is Majora's Mask and I'm wondering when will that appear as well. I think it should and is worthy.
Super Mario Bros.: Without a doubt Mario is one of the all time greats. Any of the Mario games and get the NES Version of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, a game never released in that form outside of Japan. There's also Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 to go for if you are really into Mario games.
Sonic the Hedgehog: The 1st 3 to come out for the Genesis and actually when Sonic was at its best. He was introduced as the rival to Mario based on Sega trying to make him seem cooler. His games were good and had the fun factor.
There are many other games to look into as well. The Virtual Console has just about any game for anybody who is mostly familiar with the older games instead of the newer ones. It is made for everyone. If you want to play games anything Nintendo wise from the Pre-GameCube Era, this should do the trick.
