It comes in all colours and commonly has a milky appearance. The Opal was first found in Australia during ancient Aboriginal times. Healers use Opal as an aid to relaxation and to treat disorders of the respiratory tract. Tourmaline comes in a variety of colours. It was first found in Sri Lanka approximately two thousand years ago and was initially known under the name Schrol. Tourmaline has a calming effect and healers believe it regulates the hormones, assists with sleep disorders and can ease the pain of grief.

Citrine and Yellow Topaz are associated with the month of November. Citrine is the stone of wisdom and peace; colours include a range of pale yellow to deep orange. Citrine was initially found in Greece in 400 BC. Healers use Citrine to stimulate the memory, aid digestion and assist with the removal of toxins from the body. Yellow Topaz is the stone of strength and was first found in the Red Sea. Throughout the ages it has been believed that the Topaz is so strong it can prevent death. Healers use Topaz to assist in the treatment of blood disorders and increase poor appetite.

Blue Topaz and Turquoise are the birthstones for December. Blue Topaz, like the yellow, is the stone of strength; although Topaz is mostly yellow it sometimes comes in a deep midnight blue. The properties associated with blue Topaz is the same as that of the yellow. Turquoise is the stone of good fortune. Turquoise was first found in the Sinai Peninsula in 4000 BC. Colours include a range of sky blue to various shades of green. Turquoise has always been popularly used for jewellery and was particularly favoured by the Egyptian Pharaohs. Turquoise is a primary healing stone amongst gemstone healers who use it to assist in guarding against all diseases.
These beautiful stones are currently utilized at birthstones in western society. However, this may differ according to culture.
