Oh please! Rehab is the newest sob-story on the block - and call me a cynic but i wonder how many celebs are going into rehab as it's the best way to get a bit of publicity - as they say there's no such thing as bad publicity.
While it is very sad to see so many young celebrities who seemingly have it all getting into drink, drugs, prescription medicine, shopping, food, sex - whatever their 'addiction' having a rehab program which is televised is surely not the best way to get over these addictions. Don't most of these people state the pressures of living life in the spotlight, having their private lives plastered over the media and having too much money and nothing to do with it as one of the reasons for their addictions - if this is the case doesn't a televised rehab series buy into this? While we all love a bit of celebrity gossip - love seeing the normally groomed and preened stars looking rough and appearing to be like us mere mortals, I would not want to see someone going through rehab on television. If i were to have to undergo treatment, it would be something very personal to me and would not want most of my nearest and dearest seeing me in that sort of state, let alone perfect strangers.
That in mind, would the televised rehab program be the same as a private one, for privacy reasons etc, if the program were to be softer or not the same as private ones then the celebrities will surely fail. As we have seen from other stars, rehab rarely works first time round - how many have been in & out over the years.
I think we need to give these people their space to tackle their demons in private - i do not need to know every little quirk in a persons character, whatever happened to the mystery of celebrity?
I think the TV companies are preying on people who maybe are not in the best place to make the right decisions, and their 'people' may also make the decision or suggestion that they take part for financial reasons rather than them actually getting better.
So, in conclusion, i think the idea that a celebrity can recover from their demons under the watchful lens of a camera is unlikely, and should not be encouraged.
