Your friends and family might be looking at you like you're crazy if you suggest that you spend summer vacation in Keystone. Once they see everything the area has to offer, they'll be just as eager to go. You might not be able to ski or snowboard, but you can do a whole lot more.
Why not start with something educational? That way you can get it out of the way before heading onto something more exciting and adventurous. A Historical Bus Tour is available for anyone who wants to learn a little more about the area. You can also tour the local mines that made Keystone what it is today.
If you think those chair lifts shut down completely once the snow melts, then you're dead wrong. The chair lifts are open to provide scenic rides to travelers. This gives you an eagle eye view of the area, and all for a very small price. It's a lot less than you'd pay to take the lift up, and ski you're way back.
Thousands of people travel to Colorado every year to try white water rafting, and you can be one of them too. Keystone offers rafting trips for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced rafters. Beginners can also join one of the intermediate trips, which focus more on rafting and less on sunbathing and breaks.
Those that love boating, but don't have the nerve to try white water rafting can try visiting Keystone Lake. They have canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats for people to rent. Or you can try going for a horseback ride at the Keystone Stables. They offer group and private rides. There's also golfing, fly fishing, mountain biking, and hiking for those so inclined.
Everything described here typically comes with a fee depending on the activity. If you're looking for a discount, you should invest in the Summer Passport. The Summer Passport is free to anyone who stays in one of the approved Keystone lodges, and it's worth its weight in gold. The Summer Passport allows you to access many of the events and activities for free. It also provides free food and drinks at some of the local restaurants, and discounts on other activities in the area.
Once you visit Keystone in summer, you may never return during the winter months.
