about their life, encourage them to tell you a positive story about their life. Some people have no idea how negative they are until it's brought to their attention.
(4) Use a SHORT block of time to focus your full attention on their sorrowful tales, using lots of affirming words such as "I love you", "I'm sorry that happened to you", and "thank you for trusting me enough to share your troubles with me". Don't let them go on and on, though. Get the conversation off of their troubles and onto a more positive track at the first opportunity.
(5) Always remember that you cannot help a victim of negativity by becoming one yourself. If they're draining the life out of you and turning you into a person you don't like, sometimes the best thing you can do is to let go with love, and turn your attention on those in your life that you are able to help. We all have free will, and we won't always be able to help someone who refuses to let us help them be a better and happier person.
"Fixer-uppers" are going to appear in and out of your life. Learn how to deal with them 'before' they appear, so they will be unable to suck all your positive energy out of you. Sometimes the negative people in our life can prevent us from achieving our own dreams and goals if we aren't careful to combat their negative influence upon our life early on.
