Evan (EV-an) finds its origins in the Welsh language as a surname which was closely related to Evans, Evance, Evands, and Evens. Evan itself is a form of the name "John" spelled Iefan or Iuean. This name means vital or youthful vigor.' However some think it comes from the Hebrew word "Jehohanan" which means "the LORD has been gracious".
