As the last days of winter melt into the first glowing days of spring, it's time to warm-up your wardrobe with new fashion forward pieces. Here are some spring trends fresh from the runway you can easily translate to every day to give your look a long-awaited seasonal update:
-Tribal and global prints will be in this season and can be found on everything from skirts to bags to tops. Anthropologie's malinalli float top ($78, www.anthropologie.com) is bright yellow with black zigzag stitching along the hem and V-shaped neckline. Spicy!
-Metallic accessories are a guaranteed way to add glam to any outfit. The silver metallic mosaic jacket ($300, www.jcrew.com) is the perfect layering piece over a dress or even jeans. It's elbow-length sleeves will ensure you stay cool and maintain a sharp, pulled-together look, weather you're going for a quick bite to eat or the year's most talked about party.
-Sheer separates can be worked in to almost any ensemble, and add a feminine romantic feel to your look. Incorporate nudes, neutrals, and pastels like Diane von Furstenberg's
fenobe chiffon blouse ($225, www.saks.com).
-Asymmetrical dresses and tops are making a comeback this season. Andrew Gn's one shoulder asymmetrical dress ($2295, www.nordstrom.com) is a great dressy example. For something a little more casual try Phillip Lim's asymmetrical black silk top ($425, www.bergdorfgoodman.com).
-Really celebrate the advent of spring with creative colorful florals-these are showing up everywhere and give the appearance of a freshly painted piece of art. Consider a hand painted dress by Christian Lacroix ($5015, www.neimanmarcus.com) with a full skirt and whimsical swirls and tulips. Or Rachel Roy's bateau-style brushstroke print dress ($1475, www.neimanmarcus.com). Less luxurious but equally eye-catching is Standy Starkman's floral print peasant skirt ($129, www.bloomingdales.com).
-We'll continue to see a greater variety of eco-friendly fabrics-and they just keep getting more stylish year after year. Linda Loudermilk's trim dress ($280, www.belkina.com) is a versatile denim wrap dress with a thick and skinny belt. Made of organic cotton, it's comfy, cute, and good for the earth!
-Another print we'll being seeing a lot of this season is geometric shapes: concentric circles, grids, and triangles are back, but high school geometry never looked this stylish! Anthropologie's blooming midnight blouse ($248, www.anthropologie.com) displays circles of all sizes acting as the bodice and sleeves of this adorable sleeveless top.
-High-waisted pants and shorts will continue to gain popularity this season. You can find them in khakis, fancy dress pants, and even jeans, like 18th Amendment's True High Waist Stretch Trouser Jeans ($231, www.nordstrom.com)
-Ruffles are so much fun to wear and this season you can wear them all over the place. The gayle ruffle trench ($250, www.jcrew.com) which comes in a gorgeous poppy red (the call it "bright flame") and a lightweight cotton will make a wonderful layering piece weather it's sunny or a little breezy. Ralph Lauren's mya Skirt is equally fun and froufrou with it's tiers of lapis organza ($755, www.ralphlauren.com). It's the perfect skirt for a night out on the spring town!
