Discover creativity at any age

Every moment someone comes up with a brilliantly creative idea. Every moment someone paints a masterpiece, writes the next great novel, or molds an amazing vase. Ever wish you were one of those people that just seems to have creativity oozing from your pores? How do they constantly come up with new creative ideas? To be honest, I am not sure. But here are a few of the things I personally use to get the creative juices flowing when they seem to be thick as honey.

Meditation and Exercise
It may sound odd, but when I become stuck I will meditate for 10 or 15 minutes and then get up and do something. There is some kind of magic that happens when you take a mind that is going in circles, shut it off for a few minutes, then focus on a physical activity. Some of my best ideas have come while I am folding laundry.

Write it Down
I keep a note book in every room, in every vehicle, and in every purse (I know... how many purses do I have? Well it has to match the color of my outfit right?). Getting into the habit of writing down an idea when it comes to you and then letting it go until you sit down to think about it that allows the subconscious mind to expand on the idea.

Day Dream
Life can be a fast paced hectic chaos. Three kids, four dogs, an alpaca, and a husband can make for a rather full day and night. Taking time to just day dream is a luxury that I give myself at least once a week. I am fortunate to live in a climate where sitting on the swing outside offers the perfect place to day dream. Even if you live where the air is frightful outside, throw a log in the fire and stare off into the flame. Taking time out gives the brain a much needed rest.

Laugh
Laughing puts a person in a giddy, almost child like space. That is the creative mind at its best. Laughing and enjoying the tiny moments in your day will clear away some of the stress and allow creativity to flow back in. It is true, laughter is the best medicine.

Expand Your Horizon
Often times the best ideas come when you are doing something out of your natural habit. Going outside my office and into the "real" world often sparks ideas when seeing or speaking with those that I might not have anything in common with. The public library is a great place to expand. Not only are their books to read, but their are people to watch. The mall is also a great place to go. Stroll in the stores you would have not thought of going into before and see what comes to mind.

Creativity is an art in of itself. You have to practice and let it play in order to activate it and allow it to grow.
