Humor: Valentine's Day

I wish I was more poetic. Instead, I'm a narcissistic paranoid person that is emotionally dead inside and doesn't really understand relationships. So, when my girlfriend told me that she wanted something meaningful for Valentine's Day, something personal, I panicked. Being a musician, I figured I'd write her a song. Unfortunately, I can only seem to write about ex-girlfriends and I'm not one for the mushy songs.

I am not a poet. I laugh at dick and fart jokes. I was going to need help. So, I got to my roommate for help. He's sleeping on the floor in his room, which always smells like stale smoke, bong water, and old socks, but I was desperate. After telling him my problem, he said only two words: "Mix tape."

Genius! Of course; guys had been making mix tapes for girls since it was possible to do so. It was perfect for a guy like me. There's been a ton of times that I've heard a great song on the radio, a certain line or hook, and wished that I'd thought of it first. Which gave me the title of the mix tape; "Words I Could Never Find". It sounded romantic, so I went with it.
Now, anyone that's ever made a mix tape knows that there are rules. You're using other people's words to say how you feel. The first song has got to grab attention, but you don't want to blow your wad, so you've got to cool it down a little bit. You don't want the person to skip any songs, so it's important to keep them interested. Then you've got to decide if you want a Side B, if you want to be really open or if you want to hold back some, etc. There are a lot of rules.

Since the tape was going to be for my girlfriend, I knew it had to be somewhat romantic. But I had to be careful; I didn't want the tape to start giving her any ideas (marriage, kids, matching bath towels, etc.).

The most important thing, the thing that most people forget, is that the mix tape isn't for you. So, you don't want to fill it full of music that you like. Sure; you want to put a few of your personal favorites, but remember to put music on that mix tape that the person you're making it for will like. Yeah, "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails sounds great to you, but I'm not sure it's what she wants to hear. So, be careful in your song selection.

I've got a pretty good play list on my computer, but most of it wasn't right for the mix tape. So, I ended up downloading music that I hope will never be seen on my computer. Fortunately, I did manage to sneak one or two songs that I liked in there. The rest of the music wasn't anything
