Movie reviews: Stranger Than Fiction

had many decent jobs since the excellent Primary Colours and her health problems, only compulsory cameos in Harry Potter and Love Actually for experienced British actors, bringing in the money. Here she is back on form on the big screen in that very confident and English way, sure to remerge next year on the Oscar stage if you ask me.

-Any good-

I really enjoyed this, a film that genuinely wants to engage the thinking viewer that doesn't mind being tested by unlikely and open-ended narratives. I can't imagine the normal Will Ferrell audience was best pleased with that outcome in the multiplexes. But it is good and inventive stuff and who cares about that popcorn audience that gets more than there fair share of dumb movies they want to see. I advise any of you who are fed up with that continuous flow of DVD dross from the States to really give this one a good spin.

Ferrell and token totty Maggi Gylenhaal (an actress that seems to be uniquely able to play any age on screen) have genuine chemistry and Thompson and Hoffman are in their element around smart scripts like this. Its visually strong innovative special effects give it that extra quality and at 1HR 45Minutes doesn't slack off. I'm telling you guys you won't find a better third movie for your three for seven quid at Blockbusters.
