My dog, Sasha is a big part of my family especially now that the children are grown and out on there own. She is always the door when I get home from work and is always happy to see me. Now that I am sort of semi-retired, we spend time together everyday. My wife babysits with the granddaughters three days a week so is gone some of the time and so it is just me and Sasha. We go for walks together and when I lay down for my daily short nap, she is right at the foot of the bed taking her nap too. On days when my wife is home, a lot of times all three of us go for a walk. I had trouble getting my wife to go before I got Sasha but I think she enjoys Sasha too.
Sasha is a registered Golden Retriever that I got from the Denver Dumb Friends League when she was ten weeks old. I had been watching for a purebred puppy of some kind and although I really wanted an Akita, when I saw Sasha and went to check her out, it was love at first sight and the feeling seemed to be mutual , so home with me she came and I have never been sorry. She loves to learn and she has been pretty easy to train. She sets and stays and heels really well and she is good when we are on our walks and we meet other walkers with their dogs. We have never had any problems with her at all. She loves to go to the park and play Frisbee and she is getting pretty darned good at catching it. She will bring it back and give it to me and most of the time she sets pretty good and waits till I throw it again. Some times she really has a hard time though. I wish I had one third the energy she does. Of course I guess when I was two years old I had a lot of energy too.
She will come to our bed in the morning if we happen to sleep in a little which I very seldom do, and want to go out. Then we have a little breakfast and we hang her leash low on the wall and she will bring it to me and want to go for a walk. We are real fortunate that where we live there are a lot of paved paths that are great to walk on and there is a good sized park just a couple of blocks away where I can let her run and we can play Frisbee. She never runs off and has been a real joy. I am looking forward to many more years and many more walks with Sasha.
She has not only become a very important member of the family, she has been very good for our health in that she makes us walk like we should. I have Type II diabetes and exercise is very important to keep my diabetes under control. She has helped that a lot. My sugar and weight are both down since Sasha came into my life. She loves to play with the grandkids and they love to play with her. I can not ever being without a dog ever again. Sasha is a very important part of our life and she loves to travel so when we go any where she gets in the back of our little Subaru Forester and away we go. My dog is a very important part of my life.
