Business reflects management and successful managers are those who achieve results from their subordinates. The qualities of a successful manager include honesty, commitment, sense of fairness, excellent planner, stamina, and a good negotiator.
However, the most important quality of a successful manager is integrity, striving to do what is right for the team and the company without compromising ethics. Successful managers deal openly, show no favoritism, and give credit where credit is due.
Respect follows good managers who give respect in return and ask no more of their subordinates than they are willing to do themselves. Subordinates gravitate to managers with qualities such as these and will put forth extreme effort to fill their assignment.
Successful managers have to be good motivators in order to achieve high performance results from their teams. When goals are met, a successful manager doesn't hog the spotlight, taking all the glory, but gives credit where credit is due.
In order to be the most effective, successful managers have to be good communicators who can condition and lead their team in the right direction, giving and taking up slack when needed. Good managers aren't intimidated by temporary setbacks and have the ability to ease any tensions the team may be feeling to keep them operating efficiently.
Planning is the key to success and successful managers are excellent planners, foreseeing potential obstacles with a backup plan and the stamina to achieve their objectives. Being open-minded and excellent problem solvers, they listen to the opinions and suggestions of their subordinates, weighing all available options.
One of the most effective qualities successful managers have is the ability to recognize and strengthen the weakest links on the team, thereby enhancing the whole team's chances of success. They thrive on challenges and are charismatic leaders with the ability to boost morale and induce enthusiasm.
Therefore, a successful manager has the kind of ability and drive that produces results, the charisma to establish respect from subordinates and the stamina to lead by example.
Successful managers know that as the first link in the chain, the other links are all connected to them and that one link cannot accomplish anything without the others.
The greatest example of leadership is the Lord Jesus Christ. During his time on earth, he was the perfect leader. He didn't have to shout or pound the pulpit to be heard because when the Lord entered, a hush fell over the people. Studying the methods of his leadership can enhance management qualities far better than any management course in existence.
