I love food. I could never be anorexic or bulimic or even on a diet. I would miss food too much. I enjoy eating. I enjoy seeing people enjoy eating. I'm a wannabe cook- which basically means I'm trying, I'm learning. I sometimes worry that my passion for food will turn me in to a heavier person that I would like to be, but then I weigh up the options. Diet and miss out on the enjoyment of many foods or eat whatever I enjoy, in moderation. I choose the latter.
When you're as huge a food lover as I, it's difficult to choose just ten foods. I know what my utmost favourites are (my top two) but there are so many other enjoyable meals and foods to be appreciated in this world that I struggled to find just ten. In the end, after much debate, this list was formed.
At the top of the list are two foods without which it wouldn't be worth living cheese and bread- often together, but just as delicious alone. When it comes to bread, my husband always teases me that I resemble Homer Simpson with his tongue hanging out and drooling "mmmmbreeeeeeaaaad!" My obsession with bread scares him. When it comes to bread, I'm not that fussy, but I do have my preferences. It should be white, with a soft crust. A batch that you slice yourself is ideal because I can cut myself as big a piece as I fancy. The best way to eat this sort of bread is in a chunk, rather than a slice, smothered in real butter. It's a pre-requisite that I eat a mouthful of fluffy, doughy bread first, dug out with my fingers, before eating any crust. Strangely, one of the best brands of bread to eat for softness and doughiness (I think I just invented a word!) is Kwik-Save's No Frills thin white, retailing at something absurdly cheap like 19p. It has to be eaten on the day of purchase though for freshness. Mmmmmbread!
Cheese- where do I begin? I will eat any kind of cheese, although I'm not a huge fan of blue cheese; it scares me a little. If I could eat one cheese for the rest of my life, it would be Davidstow Extra Mature Cheddar. My husband eats that 'joking' mild cheddar with no taste that Tesco palm off as cheese and I despise putting it in the trolley. Cheese should be flavoursome, crisp and sharp, enough to make your cheeks tingle when you chew it. In my family, we call it 'cowish' and for me there's no other word that suits that taste any better. When I was younger and wanted a snack, I wouldn't reach for the biscuit barrel like other kids; I would go to the kitchen drawer, pull out the sharpest knife and head
