When trying to find a persons contact information online we can begin with the things that are most familiar with us when looking for someone's contact information using paper directories. The online diectories are extremely similar to the old fashioned paper based ones, but have the advantage of being very easy to search and locate information from. What follows is some of the best online resources for obtaining a business or individuals contact details in the US and UK:
1. www.yellowpages.com
If you are looking for a business contact number then this has to be the first place to try. The yellow pages has been around for as long as most of us can remember and nothing online has been able to beat it for its coverage and useability. It remains simple to use, comprehensive and free to the user.
2. www.thomsonlocal.com
A UK based business directory that is very similar in scope to the yellow pages but aims to give a more 'local' perspective. It also includes useful headings such as; 'all you need for weddings', that link to suppliers for specific occasions.
3. www.whitepages.com
'Search. Find. Connect' - Couldn't be easier! Extremely wide coverage, and includes businesses too. This is the classic telephone directory upgraded onto the web and making it easier to search for contact information. Has the benefit of allowing you to 'reverse look up' whereby you can find the details of someone who has called you and only left a telephone number or address.
4. www.thephonebook.bt.com
In the UK the BT phonebook is the equivalent of the white pages. Again it has superb coverage and is very easy to use and navigate. Its home page is very sparse (a bit like Google) and means you are not bombarded with advertising etc., but it doesn't have the extras (such as 'reverse look up') that come with the White pages. It also includes business information and contact details.
5. www.anywho.com
This listings site is a combination of Business and personal contact information. It basically uses Yellow and White pages to find the information but presents it all together in one site. A good site for those surfers too lazy to go to different sites!
6. www.superpages.com
Similar to Anywho but a little sexier. This is again a joint listings site for business and individuals, although it is much stronger on businesses. It aims to be a 'local' service and allows users to customise searchers and save previous searchers. It is a site to use if the yellow pages doesn't deliver!
Above are a list of what I consider to be the best sources on the web to locate contact information for individuals and businesses. While the list isn't exhaustive it lists what I consider to be the best and most useful.
