It's not about how exotic the location is; it's not about how much money you can spend; it's definitely not about how drunk you got or how many new friends you've met. It's about how memorable your travels were, and whether you'll be able to recall every step of it looking back.
What makes travels memorable? It could be a trip with a purpose; it could be traveling to a corner in the world where you have always dreamed of going; it could be traveling as part of fulfilling a life long dream; or it could simply be a trip taken together with someone special. Which ever the case, there are certain ways you can make sure your travels will always be memorable.
1. Travel with a plan and purpose
You may not be going to Africa to save a community, but you can still plan and create a purpose for your journey. Even if it's something small like visit a particular gallery. Each of these plans will help you remember the journey as a part of your life and had it contribute a little to your own personal development.
2. Delve into the local cultures
Even if you are traveling in your own country, there are certain local customs and cultures that will be different to your own towns. Be adventurous and mingle with the locals; learn their language; try their cuisines and have fun. There is nothing better than being able to go home and say "I've tried Thai dancing and learned how to make green curry!"
3. Note it all down
If you do not already keep a diary, perhaps start a travel journal each time you travel. When we are traveling and experiencing new things, our minds are stimulated with thoughts and memories that will fade if you don't note it down. Keeping a travel journal is the best way to capture that moment.
4. Take memorable photographs
We all take photos on our trips but we don't always take memorable photographs. Besides the scenic shots we point our cameras at, perhaps take a couple of photos of people you've met, interesting events and cultural signs you see, the bus you sat in and little bits of interesting facts along the way. They may not be award winning travel photography, but at least you are able to look back on them and see the stories behind them.
5. Take in all the good, bad and the ugly
A memorable event doesn't always have to be pleasant. Having an open mind and taking in everything that is good, bad and ugly during your travels means you will remember the event in its truest quality. Each little things count, and don't close your minds on them. You never know they may just become great stories to tell.
Traveling is fun, but taking small little steps from above can make sure your travels are memorable, and you can remember them and share the stories with your loved ones.
