Spring Break ski destination: Whistler, Canada

Whistler, Canada might just be the perfect spring break destination for college students. At least that's what the college students who do head there for spring break have to say. Those that have been know that it boasts some of the greatest skiing in the world, not to mention some hopping nightlife once the slopes close for the day. If you're still interested in what makes Whistler, Canada such a great spring break hotspot, read on.

Whistler is located around 2 hours from the Vancouver International Airport, and shuttles are easy to catch. As soon as you fly into town, hop on a shuttle and you'll be in Whistler and ready for spring break fun before you know it. Just remember to bring along your passport, otherwise you'll be watching all of your friends heading off while you're waiting at the airport. Don't forget to exchange your money too since many shops and restaurants will not take American money.

Spring break in Whistler is something completely unique and different. Yes you probably will need to cram in 6-8 people or more in a single room to save some money, but if you stay in a condo or rental house, you'll also have private balconies and magnificent views. Try looking for a package deal that can include lift tickets, and even transportation to the mountain.

Once you've settled in, your spring break in Whistler can be as exciting or tame as you like. The area offers every kind of outdoor activity from downhill skiing, to heliskiing where you are literally dropped from a helicopter onto the mountain. If you're not quite sure if you're snowboarding or skiing skills are ready for this death-defying feat, try taking a few lessons first. If you're looking for something a little less scary or dangerous, try snow-shoeing or dogsledding.

Then there's snowmobile rides and even sleigh rides with a real horse driven sleigh. Just think of how excited your honey will be if you take her (or him) on a sleigh ride. That's something your friends in Cancun won't be experiencing. Or try hitting the tube park for a chance to fly down a 1000 foot hill, with only a tube to protect your butt from hitting the ground. Remember that you can rent any equipment that you might need.

Also make sure to hit the Whistler Village for some souvenirs to take back home, even if its just to prove to mom and dad that you didn't spend your entire spring break drinking. Then you can hit the nightclub scene, and Whistler has over 20 clubs perfect for all your spring break needs. If you're looking for go-go dancers, or just a crowded dance floor, you'll find it in Whistler. You can even try hitting GLC, which is the only ski-in bar around. If you're feeling a little more sophisticated, try the Mallard Bar for their one of a kind scotches. Or simply cap off your spring break adventure with aprs ski. Grab a cold drink, hit the floor, and listen to the great local bands as they hit the stage.

Don't forget that Whistler is home to 8,000 acres of skiable terrain, and sees over 1,000 centimeters of snow. If you're worried that you'll spend all that time getting there only to find yourself in the middle of a heat wave, don't worry. Whistler is sure to have snow for your spring break, and you might just find someone to help you keep warm.

So, what are you waiting for? Whistler is calling all college students this spring break.
