I am a bible college graduate. What does that mean and why would I start anything off by saying this? Let me explain. Being a bible college graduate means one major thing among a few other minor thoughts. That one thing is that I have spent 4 years of my life learning how to worship the bible.
AND IT GOT ME NO WHERE
I learned how to study, how to use extra tools, how to pull Greek and Hebrew meanings out of the text, how to use cultural meanings, and not a one of them got me closer to God. Don't get me wrong I now am able to use these tools to learn more about God and more importantly to know God more, but after 4 years of college I came to the realization that the bible is great, but not to be worshiped.
I recently read a book by Jim Palmer, "Wide Open Spaces," in which he stated that he took a time in his life to not study the bible, in fact he hid all of His bibles behind his couch. While I am not sure if I will ever go to that extreme I do however see the need to put your bible away and meet your Master. Modern Christianity has limited God to 66 books and a few of our favorite commentators. GOD HASN'T STOPPED TALKING. If the only revelation we have from God is in the Bible we are missing out in life.
First think of all the books that are not in the bible take for example the book of Enoch. You would think that this guy would have a few good things to say being as he didn't die because God took him up due to his love for the Lord.
On top of that what about the 1st and 2nd century churches. There was not a bible at that time. In fact all that they had was maybe a scroll and a couple of letters (even then some of the letters were fraudulent and had to be tested according to the Word of God)
During these times, people worshiped God. They didn't have 800 different versions of a book. They had ONE version of the ONE GOD. And they worshiped him with there very being.
Don't get me wrong I love my bible and enjoy the words within it, but how dare us take away the ability of God to speak to us directly or through another Christian friend or even through nature. God's word is Truth see John chapter 1. Jesus is the word of God, and also is the way, the TRUTH and the life. So Jesus, God's word is the Truth. So what that means is that Jesus is truth.
We have to get passed the fact that the bible is an awesome book. It should be God inspired it. But that is just it.. God inspired it, anything God inspires is awesome, but should not be worship. We don't look at a house and say.. wow that house is great I can't believe how awesome that house is. It's structure if flawless and the design is perfect, that house did a great job. No that would be asinine, instead we say wow the architecture came up with a great design, it is perfect, He created a flawless structure that will withstand time.
God is the designer, the architect of the Bible we must worship the creator, not his creation.
