It the greatest American movie ever made, according to "camp" authority John Waters. Three wild go-go dancers move from fast driving to murder and kidnapping. But will they go too far? Anything can happen when Varla, Rosie, and Billie find themselves holed up in the desert with a wealthy old man, his two sons, and a girl they've kidnapped!
The film's action and gratuitous energy make it exciting, and it even gives the film extra meaning. One critic pointed out the wild women are more powerful than the movie's male characters, fiercely charting their own destiny. (The first scene finds the women dancing in a go-go club, one male on-looker cheering with desperation. It's obvious that he's living vicariously through their excitement...) The three women laugh recklessly as they speed their fast convertible into the desert. And when they find a young couple - Varla kills the man in a fierce fist fight, and the three women kidnap his girlfriend.
It's all accompanied by a jazzy soundtrack, and dialogue that's laughably arch. ("While violence cloaks itself in a plethora of disguises," the narrator warns "its favorite mantle still remains sex!") The wealthy man has a sinister interest in the kidnapped young girl, while the women attempt to gain the upper hand by seducing his two young sons. And throughout it all the, ridiculous dialogue keeps coming. ("Would you like to look under my hood?" Varla says at one point.)
"They make the mafia look like the Brownies," says Billie - though she soon ends up on the wrong side of her own gang. It's unexpected action and over-the-top plot twists all combine to make this film a lot of fun - a great example of the kind of low-budget "exploitation" flick that delighted audiences at drive-in theatres in the 1960s.
Another fan of this film is Quentin Tarantino, who announced in January of 2008 that he'd like to film a re-make the starring Britney Spears. "Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill" has finally earned a real place in the history of movies.
Among those forgotten lost movies of delicious cinematic trash - this is one of the best.
