Poetry: Waiting

Waiting

Everyone's waiting
Dressed in black
Drab and weeping
Anticipating

Everyone's waiting
"So sad"
"How tragic?"
They begin contemplating

Everyone's waiting
Staring at the big empty square
Holding flowers and prose
Their attention starts fading

Everyone's leaving
The hearse putters slowly
The widow smiles,
"He's right on time."
