Exercises you can do at home without any equipment

Exercising is important. We often carry a bag full of excuses of why we can't. We don't have the time. We don't have the space or money for equipment. We can't afford to get to the gym. We just can't make it happen. But none of these excuses are really worth the health problems that often come later in life from a lifestyle that doesn't include exercise. Additionally, there are plenty of things we can do at home without any equipment, or using items that can be found around the house!

Walking.
It doesn't sound all that exciting, but walking is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. Daily walking can help one get in shape, help the heart, and even help one loose weight and tone muscles. One should always start out slow when starting a walking regimen. They should stretch their muscles and warm up with a slow walk. Then they should move into walking faster. It is also important to cool down by walking slower. This can be a complete workout! This can be done in your neighborhood, at a park, and usually in the mall making it an all season and all weather activity.

Running.
Many people who start out, shouldn't run. However, after walking and building up strength (both physical and more important heart) it is an option. Good shoes are even more important for running then they are for walking.

Stair Steps.
These can easily be done by using a flight of stairs. Simply climb up and down the stairs or use the bottom stair to step up. If you don't have a flight of stairs a brick (such as a cinder block) can be used effectively as well.

Floor Exercises, Stretches, and Calisthenics.
There are several great floor exercises, stretches, and calisthenics that can be done without any equipment at all. In fact, there are so many that I can't even begin to touch on them all here in this single article. However, you can search the web and find great options and lists with explanations on how to do them.

Getting Creative.
You can do light weight training with items around the house. If you have a young child the two of you can play together, while you exercise. Using them for pec presses (laying on the floor and raising them from your chest upward), Bicep Curls (holding them close to your body while standing and then bending your elbows to bring them up), and other exercises can be done all while exciting your child.

Other items work as well. If you are woman starting out, soup cans often make good weights. Water bottles of different sizes can be used. You are free to use your imagination to get weights and use them to build muscle.

In addition to lots of free and easy exercises you can think about buying some aids that are inexpensive. An exercise video might be something that appeals to you. Or dumbbells, resistant bands, or a jump rope. All of these things can be purchased for a small amount of money and they can be used simply at home, and they are easily stored. Getting in shape, loosing weight, and building muscle doesn't have to be hard work or expensive. It can be done in your home for little or no cost. A little discipline and you will have a great regimen soon established.
