Poetry: Poems for children

What do you do
With the chicken pox?
First mom insists
That you keep on socks!
Then makes you a sick bed
On the couch,
And comes each time
You holler "OUCH!"
She puts on some pink stuff,
That stops each itch,
You look like a polka dot
Halloween witch!
You get to drink pop
And eat in bed,
While mom comes in &
Feels your head.
She sits with you
And reads you books,
(between the times
She cleans and cooks.)
You're not sick enough
For the doctor and such,
But still you don't feel
Like playing much.
You might want to color
Or watch some TV,
Or pretend you're the captain
Of a ship at sea!
If you're in school,
You don't have to go!
(Nobody want to
Catch them, you know!)
They don't last long
And soon you're well,
Then all the kids will
Want you to tell,
"What did you do
With the chicken pox?"
And you begin with your mom
And the socks. . . .
