Great cocktails

I love a good cocktail. So, when I saw this article, I got excited. Drinking a beer is one thing but drinking a cocktail can help put you into a good mood or help shake you out of a bad one.

My five great cocktails are mood-oriented. The first two are for partying. A party mood is a great lively feeling and a Twisted Cosmopolitan is always a winner. A Twisted Cosmo is a variation on the original but "A bit Twisted". Served with equal parts of Absolut Mandarin (or any other orange vodka), Cointreau (or if your feeling saucy Grand Marnier) and cranberry juice. Mix and chill, add a splash of lime juice. Another great party cocktail is a traditional Margarita. Tequila is the king of party liquors for a reason. A margarita softens the tequila a bit with equal parts of tequila, triple sec, and sour mix. Serve chilled up in a salt or sugar rimmed glass. Finish it with a splash of lime juice.

Sometimes a cocktail can help to feel more sophisticated as well. When I am trying to get into this mood I drink a Tom Collins. This was a drink invented by old men who sat around smoking cigars and talking politics. Nowadays, this drink is a little different such as the different variations on the traditional drink like a Vodka Collins (you can probably guess) and Blue Collins (adding Blue Curaco for taste and color). But in its most traditional form a Tom Collins is Gin and Sour mix. I like to add some Triple Sec for a little something extra.

Another sophisticated drink is the Old Fashion. Also invented by manly men doing manly things, this drink has a bit more kick to it. Served over a crushed orange, cherry and lemon (tip - easiest to crush with a spoon in a glass), and a full shot of Bourbon. A packet or teaspoon of sugar is added as well as a dash or two of bitters. Then served up or over ice. This drink screams sophistication but is a bit much to handle. Not for the faint of heart.

My last great mood cocktail is Lynchburg Lemonade. Lemonade stems from lazy summers sitting on the porch relaxing. This drink only enhances feeling. It is served with a kick adding equal parts of Jack Daniels, Triple Sec and Sour Mix, topped with a splash of sprite. It is relaxing and tasty.

So, theses are my five great mood-enhancing cocktails. They are tasty, classy and a bit risque. And the important part is that they also say something about you. So, depending on the mood you're trying to achieve this is the list to look over. Enjoy!
