ORIGIN AND MUSICAL BREAKTHROUGH AND SUCCESS:

She is a five-time Grammy Award winning artist. She favors Amy Lee from the band "Evanescence," she is both a national and international sensation, her name, Amy Winehouse. This 24 year old music prodigy was born in Southgate, London, England on September, 14, 1983. Her music includes a fuse of jazz, soul, and R&B. With the looks of Amy Lee, and the portfolio more resembling Alicia Keys, Winehouse, is definitely a force to be reckoned with within the hallowed halls of the music industry. Releasing her debut album "Frank" in 2003, she has steadily won over a cult-like following. To many who feel that her rise to fame was overnight, think again.

Winehouse, was born not with a silver spoon in her mouth, but with a guitar in her hands and with music in her heart. Born under the umbrella of jazz musicians throughout her family, she was inspired very early to add her name onto the family resume. At age ten, she formed a band called "Sweet and Sour" and afterward she moved on to greener pastures, because at the age of fifteen, she began writing her own music lyrics, embarking upon an entirely new experience.

How's that for a child prodigy?

Prince has gone on record saying that, Winehouse, was the greatest female voice he had ever heard. With that type of confidence from one of the music industry's premiere faces, sounds like things couldn't get better, right? Wrong. Winehouse, for her many musical achievements has won numerous awards. That list includes these earnings, 2004 Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song (musically and lyrically) for the song "Stronger Than Me." Also, the South Show Bank Awards has given the 2004 honor of, "Best Pop", BRIT Awards, Elle Style Awards, Ivor Novello Awards, Greatest Britons Q Awards, Pop Justice Music Prize, MOBO Awards, MTV Music Award, MTV Europe Music Awards, nominated for dozens of other awards.

My personal favorite, having won these awards just last night, she is a five-time Grammy Award winner. Snubbed from winning a 6th golden horn (a record for female artist in on evening), she narrowly missed winning the prestigious "Album of the Year" award for her 2006 album, "Back To Black". It is truly funny that she had won the "Best New Artist" award, when she won a handful of awards for "Back to Black" being, actually, her second studio album.
