Poetry: The wind

Summer Friend

While on my way to touch your face today, I danced and played amongst the grasses long and flowing, but they had more energy than I and so I departed, weary from their games.

Through labored course I set my path across low-lying valleys and ascended cresting hills. A moment I took to catch my breath and soon I was back in step.

The sun had tried to hold me still to keep me in my place, but I leapt and ducked and ran along til I was further than his grasp.

Into the woods I traipsed alone, weaving between the pines. I stumbled on a rock or two, but I continued toward my journey's end.

Across the paddock I narrowed by sights and merrily traveled on, and in the pattern of my gait dust clouds jostled around my ambling form.

Deliberate in my approach, my haste slowed into jovial splendor. You turned into my embrace for the trees foretold of my arrival.

Singing Ring around the Rosie' we began to twirl about; we laughed and swayed until the sun bade us his farewell.

And as you turned your back to go to home for peaceful slumber, your parting words lifted from my heart any traces of my sorrow, "Good night, summer breeze, come dance with me tomorrow."
