How to build a bar in your home

should only have to use one sheet of ply board to the front of the bar, it has already been factory cut and should fit perfectly on the front side of the bar. Still check for squareness and level.

The top of the bar should be three foot width and eight foot long. You want about a foot over hang with the extra foot hanging over the front of the bar. You can go ahead and cut this because it will be added on last.

The backside of the bar, you will need the 1x2s and a 20 inch 2x4. The 2x4 should be centered by finding the center of the bar on the back where the doors will be added. Half of eight foot is four and make your center mark. Measure the half way mark of the four inch side and center it also. Do this at the top and bottom of the frame on the back side. Once you have found center on both pieces line the marks up and attach pre-drilling and counter sinking drill holes for toe nailing the stud in place.

Adding the bottom of the bar should not be hard, this will be the inside flooring of the bar. One eight foot piece by 28 inches wide with the corners notched out should lay in perfect. You can drill a 2 inch hole for your ice maker or a little sink after you have installed the floor.

Once you have the three sides done and the floor of the bar installed, flip the front face down and start on the door side. You will need three 20 inch long 2x4s. They will be placed in the back center of the bar and at the back two ends of the door faces. This will give you a solid base to attach the front ply board after determining the width of your doors.

Determine how far in, off each corner you are coming in and center the 2x4 with the 4 inch face pointing outward towards you. Line up on your center marks you have chosen and fasten.

I you have decided on 2 foot by 44 inch doors you have done good in finding out how many doors you will need to put on. You will probably need four doors cut at the dimensions you have measured. Cut you four 1x2 pieces of stripping 20 inches long and attach them after finding you center for your doors.

The stripping allows something for the doors to close up against when shutting. You can attach the hardware hinges later. Once you have finished the bottom and mounting your doors, it is time to add the top of the bar.

Stand you bar back up and apply the wood glue to the edges of the box at the top. Place the top on and check for squareness before securing the top with counter sunk wood screws. Make sure you have the one foot out over the front and secure one corner at a time. Take a wet cloth and wipe the excess glue in to the seams and off the wood face.

You are done with the cabinet. The last thing to do is add the molding to the style you want. Sand with a light grade sand paper to make the surfaces smooth and finish with a stain of choice and seal it with a coat of polyurethane and your done.

I know this is a lot to do, but you can build a bar for a week end project. Your attention to detail and the looks will depend on the choices you add to the Bar.
