How to build a bar in your home

later on.

The length:

You will need four 2x4s, eight foot long for the length of the bar. Be sure to mark and square all lines before cutting the 2x4. Check them to make sure the ends are square. You can quickly check by using your fast square.

The height:

Cut five pieces at 48 inches long. These will support the upper top of the bar. As before make sure all ends of cut 2x4s are even. Always measure twice and cut once.

Framing the bottom and top:

Lay your pieces of 2x4s out in the shape of a rectangle. The eight foot pieces with the 20 inch pieces on the inside of the eight foot pieces. Put your fast square in to the corner of the first section you are going to attach. This will keep you square in the corners
while you fasten the 2x4 sections together.

You can pre-drill the screw holes if you prefer, it will guide the screw better and keep the wood from splitting. Once you have connected all the corners check the width from corner to corner cross ways, this ensures there was no skewing when you put the
sections together. The corner to corner measurement is in the shape
of a X. The top section of the bar is done the same way.

Framing the sides:

Attach the 48 inch pieces to the inside corners of the bottom. The bar should look almost like a table with legs. Take your four foot level and lay across the top of the studs on the ends of the bar. If the bubble is centered go on to the next step. If not you may have
to remove all but one screw on the support to adjust to level.

Framing the length:

It some times is best to have help in adding the top studs of the frame, or if you have no one just simply turn the assembled section down and place the legs on the inside of the other rectangular frame that is to be the topof the bar.

Use your level and fast square to keep things lined up and level. Attach one screw to each end support and check for plum and square as you do. This will keep any mistakes from happening during assembly.

Adding the sides and top covers:

The sides of the coverings should be cut with a skill saw or table saw if you have one. You will need to cut a 28 inch piece of ply board sheet square for the sides. The extra four inches are to allow you to have a kick plate for the bottom of the bar. The kick plate is
the L shaped place at the bottom that lets you get close to the bar.

Once you have the pieces cut and squared, cut a 4x4 inch square off of one corner. Do both side pieces this way. Once you have completed this, mount the side pieces to the width of the frame.
