Building a bar in your home or kitchen can be done in many different ways. If it is the traditional liquor and beverage bar, their are some very cool and interesting concepts you can add to the charm and appeal. Old antique om-wares and china hutches are good ideas to implement into a room. They come with hutch door locks, so it is easy to replace
the lock for future use and keep unwanted hands from access to the alcoholic beverages.
The old wooden TV cabinets from around the sixties are also good to think about when considering a stylish and formidable foundation to build your bar from. The other concept is to build it your self. The bar is a good place to entertain house guest and close friends. Impressing them with your constructive abilities can have positive effects. You can do this!
Measuring and drawing your own lay out and diagram is a important starting point. Let us say it is a 2x4x8 dimensional bar. Simple measurement of the space it will take up, can be arrived by these three deminsonal measurements and give you a mental picture to what the bar may look like when completed.
You will need to buy four pieces of 7/8 inch thick ply board with a birch finished side. They come in 4x8 sheets and it is very pretty when you add the stain to the final finish. You will need six 2x4x8 length studs for framing the inside dimensions. You will need six strips of 1x2 for ribbing the inside for support and drawers. A box of three inch wood screws for
fastening and a bottle of wood glue of your choice.
You will need a quart can of wood stain, a cloth diaper or cheap paint brush for applying the stain. You will need a quart can of polyurethane to complete the finish when you finish your construction of the bar. You will need a fast square and level, to make sure your bar will be square and plum.
A hand held skill saw of jig saw, for cutting and a miter box saw for cutting the molding and trim. The molding is for adding style and depth to the out side planks. There are many beautiful shapes and sizes of moldings to give the bar that professional look and style. The reasons for the mold trim on the bar, is to break up all the straight lines of the bar and add depth and texture to the outside panels.
Starting your bar:
The width: Cut four pieces of 2x4 20 inches long. I know you are saying why 20 inches long?Well these two pieces are for the sides of the bar, with the bar being two foot wide you will need the pieces 20 inches long to add the width for the two eight foot pieces
