How the Hoards of the Rich Hurt Us All
Here in the United States, there people who are outrageously rich. They live in mansions, and hire servants to cook and clean for them, and have luxuries that most of us could hardly dream of. The fact is that in America, 99% of the wealth is owned by 1% of the population.
It is because of these greedy people that the rest of us are poor. They hoard the money that was meant for all of us for their own selfish purposes.
Right now, in this country, there are parents who can't afford to feed their children. There are homeless people who sleep on cardboard under bridges. There are people who can't afford proper medical care. Then there are filthy rich people who have four mansions, sleep on feather beds and are eating filet mignon, washed down with Dom Perignon, served up by paid servants, at the very same time the extreme poor, often very short distance away, are going hungry.
Statistics have shown that in any given year, as many as 3.5 million people in America will experience homelessness, of which approximately 39% will be children. That calculates as about 1,365,000 children who will end up sleeping on the street without anyone who is able or willing to adequately care for them. This is absolutely unforgivable in one of the most abundant countries in the world. Why aren't the incredibly wealthy, who have so much more than they need or could ever really use, willing to lend a hand?
It isn't just the close physical proximity that these rich people have to their poorer countrymen, that is so disturbing. I believe that the Founding Fathers intended America to be a land of copatriots, where people help one another, not a country where the rich abandoned the poor to a horrible fate.
Whenever I see someone like a Hollywood celebrity who is drowning in money, I can't help but feel that he or she has a social responsibility to alleviate the suffering of the homeless and the destitute. I believe they are beholden to lend a helping hand to the sick who can't pay their own medical bills. Imagine how much better this country would be if all the money that was being wasted on $500 haircuts and liposuction went to rescuing troubled homeowners from foreclosure. Imagine what wonders would occur if all the money that was thrown away on Ferraris and private jets was spent to help single mothers fresh from divorce to get transportation to work. Imagine what a better place we would live in if all the money squandered on
