Making money by writing is a huge number of people's dreams. However, it doesn't often work out as well as they desire. There is a lot of luck and chance in getting published. You have to send the right piece, to the right editor, at the right time to make it all work out. However, the internet has opened the doors to aspiring writers everywhere. You can now write and make money online. There are many sites that will pay you or let your earn an income off of your writing. The list below is by no means a complete list. I have worked with all these sites, but there are many more that I haven't yet found or tried.
Helium.
Helium is a good place to start, because if you are reading this article it means that you are here. Helium makes it easy to find topics and titles to write on. Then you take the time, write, and submit your article. Your article then makes a few cents according to page views. This part isn't real clear. Over time you can make more and more money from Helium. This becomes a passive income because you make money each month without putting in additional work. They also have contests and a marketplace where you can earn even more money.
Associated Content.
Associated Content pays upfront for some articles and you can make $3-20 upfront. Additionally all of your AC content can make performance pay at $1.50 for every 1000 page views.
Triond.
Triond works a little differently. They publish articles on lots of different partner sites. In exchange you get revenue shared from those sites. It takes time to build it up, but over time it can be worth a lot of money.
Squidoo.
Squidoo offers a fun and exciting way to make a page. They let you earn from several affiliate programs they partner with as well as from Google Adsense. It takes time to build up earnings there, but it can be done.
Hubpages.
Hubpages works similar to Squidoo with the page building, however they let you enter your affiliate codes so you can start earning money from your affiliate programs right away. You don't have to wait for them to get paid and you don't have to work as hard to get your pages advertised and viewed.
There are other sites that I am currently unfamiliar with. They include Suite 101, Flixya, PrintNPress, Xomba, and Life Tips. This is by no means a complete list. The face of the internet is changing all the time. New sites come, others go, and some grow till they are found by authors that love them. Whatever, it may be, writing online, can be profitable. Find a site you enjoy, work at it, and watch your income grow.
