As a dietitian and food scientist, I can tell you that the only 3 day diet is the detox diet, which is designed to cleanse the body of toxins and refresh the digestive system. However, this should be done under the supervision of a registered dietitian since not all people can handle such a diet. As a rule of thumb, any diet claiming that weight loss will occur within days, even weeks, is a fad. Any substantial sudden changes to diet behaviors can have reverse effects within the body. This means that if you decide overnight to cut down your calorie intake by 1000 calories, then your body will adjust and burn 1000 less calories in order to keep its energy reserves stable. This is precisely why starvation does not work as well. When you starve your body, your body will adjust itself to burn less calories in order to preserve energy, meaning that your metabolism slows down. Overtime, this temporary slowing of the metabolism could become a more permanent state, causing the body the burn less calories overtime, become less energetic, and generally become slower at performing everyday tasks such as digestion, blood circulation and others.

As for any 3 day diet plans, I will give you this, you may very well lose weight, and lots of it, but gaining it back will be the easiest thing in the world. I always tell this to all my clients saying that want to lose lots of weight in little time; the slower you lose the weight, the longer you keep it off. Weight loss must be gradual, and it must include a change in lifestyle and eating habits and not just 3 days of starvation or extreme calorie reduction. Whether a diet plan works or not does not solely depend on how much weight is lost, it must include a balanced eating lifestyle and be able to provide all of the necessary nutrition while at the same time aiding in weight loss. I myself have lost 35 kg (77 pounds). It took me over a year to accomplish this, but it was more than worth the time. It was well worth it because I have not gained a single pound back after that and more importantly I have completely changed my old eating habits and replaced them with better ones which are now part of my everyday life. Long term positive changes in diet and eating habits speed up your metabolism, meaning that your body will burn more fat and calories on its own, without any extra help. I lost all my weight without even exercising. I am not suggesting that you do not exercise because exercise and activity are crucial to your health and longevity, however, it just goes to show you just how much what you eat can directly affect your health and image.
