How would you like to walk into your house on a cold snowy day, after spending a stressful day at work, picking up hungry kids from daycare, and be greeted by the welcoming and delicious aroma of a fully cooked meal? This is one of the many benefits of crockpot cooking.
Crockpots are an ingenious device, that allow you to put a hearty beef stew or succulent basted chicken on the dinner table with everyday consistency. It's near impossible to ruin a crock pot meal and the added bonus is a one pot clean-up when the meal is finished. Healthier than frying, crockpots provide an amazing array of menu possibilities.
Working people come home from a stressful day of work to face hungry children, household chores, and meal preparation. Crockpot cooking offers immediate relief with its slow cooking your meal while you are at work. As you're embroiled in supplier relations or working intensely on a report that is due your meal is cooking. Instead of worrying about dinner you can apply all your thought and energy to the work tasks.
Meal preparation in the morning takes a little planning. Preparation of the meat is easy and quick but if you want to add fresh vegetables you will add another ten to fifteen minutes to preparation. When your meat and vegetables are placed in the crockpot with your choice of seasonings, turn it to the lowest setting and forget about it until you return home in the evening.
Families will want at least a five quart pot to contain enough food for a meal, and you may buy even larger ones to handle roast cuts, ham, and poultry. There is plenty of room to add potatoes, onions, carrots and the subtle spices that bring your meal to its full and delicious flavor. The meat self bastes as the steam surrounds and permeates the meal. Even cheaper meat turns out tender and juicy saving the cost of more expensive cuts of meat.
In the winter, many of us have hearty soup recipes that satisfy all appetites. These can be made in the crockpot also. Hearty potato or beef vegetable soup are naturals for crockpot cooking. My personal favorite is slow cooking a large pot of chili on a cold winter day. I freeze the leftovers for next weeks lunch or a quick nutritious meal when I'm on the run.
Crockpots give off a certain amount of heat but far less than an oven. In the summertime, if you're not cooking outside on your grill, slow cooking can fill the void. When my oven went out, I relied on my crockpot to deliver the healthy and nutritious meals for my family.
The most efficient crockpots lift out of their heating housings/jackets for easy cleanup. I send my five quart through the dishwasher with no ill effects. They come in all sizes and can be used for several purposes. They're portable too and can be taken to potluck dinners or on camping trips for heating water.
Homes get very dry in the wintertime, all you need do is fill your crockpot with water and turn it on low heat to humidify your kitchen and surrounding areas. You can even move it to a safe spot in another room where moisture is needed. Need a fresh new scent in your room? Add some potpourri to your crockpot to accomplish the task. Special mini crocks are sold for potpourri.
Crockpots are versatile with many benefits. If you want to save time, personal and household energy, I recommend slow cooking in a crockpot. It's a healthy choice for people on the go.
