#1- Price of Popcorn For the price of popcorn at most movie theaters, impress your date with a "Movie under the Moonlight." After a short drive to the outskirts of Boston, you will stumble upon one of the most classic first date experiences - the drive-in movie theater. At its peak, Massachusetts was known for the quaint romance of it 94-plus outside theatres. Why not re-capture that classic romance at the Mendon Drive In theatre, harkening back to the hey-days when it first opened in 1954 (Mendon Drive In Theater; mendondrivein.com; $15/car load)
#2 - Turn into a Prince Not only will your date think you're a prince when you first lace up your skates at the Frog Pond in the Boston Common, but you're also bound to impress with your appreciation of the history of one of America's oldest park, circa 1634. Open from November until mid-March, the skating rink is the perfect way to start an evening. And with more than a dozen restaurants and cafes just beyond the pond, you can always warm up afterwards sitting near a fireplace sipping on a latte. (Frog Pond; bostoncommonfrogpond.org; $4/Admission, $8/skate rental)
#3 - More than Chips Salsa for beginners is a great way to spend a Sunday evening getting better acquainted with your new dance partner! At the Ryles Jazz Club you will not only receive great lessons that are sure to spice up your night, but your partner will know that you've got great moves, even if they're not on the dance floor. (Ryles Jazz Club; rylesjazz.com; $10/lesson & dancing)
Even on a college budget, Boston's rich history has much to offer the romantic at heart. Whether you choose to dance the night away or push you car seats back and enjoy the show, "the key to a an impressive date is not the amount of money you spend but the magic of the moment that you create" says recent college graduate Evan Garvey. So take that twenty bucks, combine it with a little bit of imagination, and city will become your Oyster! Good luck!
