How to study the Bible

Before you begin to read and study the Bible you should start off with a prayer. Then read Psalms 118:19 "Open thou mine, eyes that I may behold wondrous things of thy Law."

The bible abounds with wondrous, spiritual goodies which are hidden from casual glance. Our eyes need to be opened to see them" Psalms 118:19, The Believer's Bible Commentary).

Search out all the scriptures on a given topic. Doctrine is never built on a single scripture. However, it is developed out of comparing all that the Bible has to say on a given topic.

Get a balance on what the God's word says. Don't lock down on are scripture, search the whole chapter.

Tie your reading and studying to everyday living ( your life style). Ask yourself this question, "How does this truth apply to my life right now? You must understand that the Bile is not a textbook on theory. It is a guide to your Christian growth and life.

When you study the Bible use every available study helps such as; dictionaries, bible encyclopedias, commentaries, and the original languages of the Bible. These books will help you break down God's word and give you a better understanding.

Discipline yourself to have good study habits such as;

1. Read and study the Bible on a daily basics.
2. take some time out of your day when you have the fewest destructions to study the Bible.
3. Try setting a goal of time everyday to read and study the Bible for at least 15 to 20
minutes.
4. You must use quality time when it comes to studying the God's word in order for you to
understand and remember what you had read.

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth" ( II Timothy 2:15, King James Version).

" All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (II Timothy 3:16, King James Version).

Sometimes by using study tools like, a pen or highlighters to underline passages and verses will inspire you to go back and them over and over again. The more you read them easier it will be to memorize them.

When you study the Bible you should get into an habit of taking notes. Your notes can be a great help for you to use for any questions or opinions you may have in bible study class.

Before you begin writing your notes ask yourself the following questions;

1. Who is talking?
2. Who is he talking to?
3. What is the subject about?
4. How does it apply to you?

Remember you make the difference. Your openness and willingness to God to be changed will determine how much you add to your life. It doesn't matter about how high is your (I.Q) or how much education you may have. But "heart attitude".

Jesus said, "Those who will follow will know of the doctrine, the Holy Spirit will make it come along to us as we cooperate.
