How to tell if someone's a real friend

How to tell if someone is your real friend ?
First off, I think you always get a good or bad feeling in your gut about a person
You know the old saying, follow your instinct.
If you stop listen to what your heart is telling you or where it is leading you, (intuition)
it seldom fails.
I believe you can follow your instinct and "know" right away if some one is going to be a real friend to you or not.
A real friend is someone you are always comfortable with, who you can be yourself around, no matter what sort of mood you're in or what is going on in your life?
You know they aren't going to judge you but instead, support you through thick and thin.
The same will be true for you.
You don't mind where your real friends are at. You are always there for them and you accept them - mistakes, moods, misdemeanors, the lot.
Real friends listen to you and let you spill or dump on them or get things off your chest.
They don't laugh at you (well, not much) they may laugh with you but not at you.
They don't criticize you. They may correct you if they think you are about to do something really embarrassing, life threatening or illegal but they don't put you down.
They pull you up!
Now most importantly, real friends never, ever, ever tell your secrets to anyone.
No matter who it is, even if it is your mutual best friend.
Secrets are secrets.
Real friends will even lie to cover for you. But only in small ways, like, I don't know where she is. We haven't spoken about this or that.
My real friends don't even have to be told to keep quiet. That what I am about to tell them is a secret and must go no further.
They can just tell, what is important and what is trivia.
Years ago, I made a rule that I try hard to stick to and that is, I try not to say behind someone's back, what I wouldn't say to their face.
Last but not least.
Real friends are always there when you need them but never inter fer when you don't need them.
They respect you!
They respect your time, your privacy, your decisions and if any part of your life tumbles down, they will be round with spades on to help you clean up!
