Interior decorating tips for the home

It is said that we spend up to a third of our lives in our bedrooms. Consequently, the bed decor needs to be inviting and relaxing. For most people the bedroom is a place of solace. A private getaway from the outside world to relax and rest. The room, whether it is a Master bedroom or a child's room, needs to feel protected and safe. Here are a few suggestions for any bedroom that incorporate the art of Feng Shui into the decor.

1. There should always only be one entrance to the bedroom. If there is more than one entrance the likely hood of traffic through the room is greater and it thereby does not have safety of a one door bedroom.

2. An important factor is to ensure that enough ch'i enters the bedroom during the day so that at night it will sustain a person as they sleep. To achieve this, during daytime hours open all windows and blinds allowing as much natural light into the room as possible.

3. If you participate in more than resting and sleeping in your bedroom, form some sort of barrier between the two areas. Example is an office desk in the bedroom. Although ideally the bedroom should be only for sleeping, if a desk is located in the bedroom use a screen wall to partition off the area you are working in, keeping it separate from the rest of the room. If a child has a play area in their bedroom, build a wall with stackable crates to hold the toys in or a book shelf that separates play area from sleep area.

4. Make sure that from where ever the bed is located, you can see who enters the room through the door. If you can't add a mirror to reflect the door in. This provides for that safe protected feature.

5. Round mirrors in bedrooms enhance relationships and are recommended on north walls.

6. Live plants in a bedroom can stimulate the energy in a bedroom. Adding a potted fern will increase the amount of ch'i that is in the room.

7. Keep beneath the bed clear of clutter. Do not use it for storage as it will block the ch'i from flowing freely through the room.

8. Ensure that the first thing you see when you awaken is something pleasant. Perhaps a pretty watercolor painting or a bouquet of fresh flowers. This will start your day off positively. Verse seeing a pile of dirty clothes which will stir negative energy. In a child's room be sure they have bright colors to wake up to.

9. The correct colors to use in bedrooms, especially a child's room, are dependent upon the element of those sleeping in the room. A basic color of off white should be used if you do not know your element's colors, in this way accent colors can be added to create the best ch'i of the room. Neutral colors are considered to be nourishing for the soul as well.

10. Most children's rooms are filled with imaginative renderings of what that child loves. An adult room does not need be a drab boring room. Fill it with the things that you love or simple items that remind you of things, people and places that you love. This will express love and passion resulting in a more restful and peaceful sleeping pattern.
