Why we need breakfast

Many people have said it, and I agree with them. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We could simply divide the word in half, and look at what we have. Break-fast. When you eat breakfast, you are breaking the fast you started the night before when you ate dinner. After spending roughly 11-12 hours without food, your body needs an energy boost. Eating breakfast has been proven to have positive effects on both your body and mind.

Breakfast helps keep us at a healthy weight. Studies have proven time and time again that breakfast eaters tend to weigh less than those who skip breakfast. People think eating breakfast makes you eat more all day, but the opposite is true. By giving your system food early in the day, it could take longer to digest, therefore making you less hungry and apt to eat less at both munch and dinner. You have a foundation to build on during the day.

Breakfast allows us to concentrate better, and reduces forgetfulness during the day. When we are hungry and our stomachs are empty, our brains are as well, and when we feed our stomachs..., well, you solve the equation. Brain and stomach will always go together, and good, healthy options for breakfast allows our brains to function at peak performance. (I wish I had taken my own advice back in high school. Oh, the D's and C's that could have been A's and B's).....

Breakfast allows us to stay in a better mood. When we are hungry, we are easily irritated and annoyed. We also fell more weak, and possibly, faint. We are able to listen to people alot better, and we feel stronger and our self-esteem is higher because of this. We tend to do better on tests and presentations, just as oil helps cars and bikes to run so much smoother.

Eating and preparing breakfast does not need to be hard to learn. First, choose what you will have the night before. For people with packed schedules, this makes the process alot easier. If you work full-time, get up earlier if you want some brain food like eggs and bacon. If you are time-pressed, leave it in a bag and eat it when you get to work. If you do not like to cook, especially early in the morning, grab something from a diner or restaurant on your way out the door. Even it is not healthy at first, at least you are getting used to eating. Worry about nutrition later. Many of these places have a reasonably-priced breakfast menu, so you do not need to worry about cost either (another reason people do not eat breakfast).

For breakfast, protein, fruits, and carbohydrate combinations work best. Try having carbs like bagels, toast or cereal, along with either eggs, bacon, or sausage. Add in strawberries or blueberries for some quick hand-picked fruits. You do not need a whole feast. Breakfast does not have to be the biggest meal, but make sure you get the necessary caloric amount. Still think it is too time-consuming? Have a yogurt container with some fruit and granola/cereal mixed in. You get three food groups with each spoonful. A good beverage to drink would be either orange juice, coffee, or milk, and even regular water.

You will see that after you eat breakfast, your performance at work and school will get increasingly better, and your peers will notice this as well. Who knows, you could even be in line for a promotion or project in the future, and all because you did something good for your health.
