TV show reviews: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

The facts are clear. CSI has been going for eight years and does is not seem to be waning in anyway. How long does an American TV series normally last? A really good one can last ten or so years as did Friends. I feel if the first episode does not have an immediate impact the series is either going to be mediocre or have a short life span, at worst canned.

There have been numerous cop type shows popping up on our screens. NYPD Blue was a huge success; if we go back earlier we can talk about Cagney and Lacey which was popular too. So we could of course have said to ourselves before we saw it that this was just another cop show.

So what makes a show successful? Is it the acting? Is it the storyline? Is it the genre? Its all these things. CSI brings in Grissom who is not your average guy at all. For goodness sake he loves bugs! We find out that Brown used to be a big gambler. Sometimes there will be your token alcoholic or someone of that ilk in a team. I also think Grissom is a very mysterious guy he leads a very private life and sometimes I wish he could open up more.

My favourite character is Nick Stokes. His rugged good looks...he's definitely got the wow factor. He is professional from beginning to end and such a smooth talker. I must admit when Greg was a lab boy I enjoyed his presence a lot more than now he's a CSI. His funky hair styles were always a laugh. I do like the new lab guy called David Hodges. They made a good episode not so long ago with him as the main character about him trying to solve the miniature murders. I love episodes like that when they do something totally off the wall.

There was an episode where it was all about the dead peoples lives. It starts out by them being brought into the morgue. Then they start talking to their fellow also dead people and then we get the flashback of how they were murdered.

Then there was the very famous double bill CSI directed by Tarantino. That was simply amazing. It circled around Nick Stokes being buried alive. The team had to figure out how to get him out before his horrible death. The team were given a website so they could look at him. The catch was they had to turn a light on to see him. The ultimate catch was every time they did this it stopped the air coming in from an in-built fan. Very well done!

It is great to see a team stay together for so long. We get used to characters. We all have our favourites. I wonder if we are going to see any cracks now that Sara Sidle has gone? She was the obvious choice for the guys lust icon. Catherine still looks great for her age so you never know. I hope CSI continues for awhile yet. I enjoy the freshness of the writing. I love watching Nick Stokes!
