Since historic times, people have been trying to determine and classify different types of muscle pains, and there efforts have paid off. There are several different types of muscle diseases, and I will touch on the most common ones in this article.
Scientifically, a muscle disease is known as a neuromuscular disease. A neuromuscular disease can be caused by two different things: Directly through the muscle or indirectly through the nerve. Symptoms of a muscle disease can include spasms, weakness, continuous muscle contraction and pain. If you are uncertain that you have a muscle disease and are suffering from these symptoms, see your doctor immediately.
The first class of muscle diseases that I will touch in is known as myopathy. Myopathy occurs when muscle fibers do not move resulting in weakness and in extreme cases immobility. Myopathy is not causes by nerve disorders and is therefore a direct cause from the muscle. Although Myopathy is usually degenerative, they are known to be caused from drug side affects.
Next up is fibromyalgia, another common disease. It is a chronic illness that can result in extremely agonizing and widespread pain, moderate to severe fatigue, allodynia (sensitivity to touch,) needle-like tingling on the skin, nerve pain, limb weakness, prolonged muscle spasms, as well as aching muscle tissues. It has been reported that sufferers have had symptoms such as insomnia and short-term memory loss. Fibromyalgia generally begins during childhood and is usually diagnosed, or should I say misdiagnosed, as growth pains. Studies have shown that stress is a leading cause of fibromyalgia.
Dermatomyositis is a group of inflammatory muscle diseases. When seen on an X-Ray it can show dystrophic calcifications in the muscles and is known to be an early indication of cancer. Main indicators of Dermatomyositis are symmetric proximal muscle pains as well as a rash on the skin.
