My distant cousin, Edgar Whitehead was a Captain in company E, born near Lovingston, Nelson
County, Virginia March 28, 1828. Mr. Whitehead moved to Amherst County, Virginia and to
Lynchburg about 1849. He was a merchant and tobacconist. Moved to New Glasgow, Amherst County
in 1852 and served as sheriff at Amherst County 1849-1852. He enlisted Amherst Court House
on May 23, 1861. at age 33. When I think back I did not enlist in the military until I was
at age 33, and my military career ended at age 34, before it even got started.
His occupation was listed as a tobacconist, signed for 8,000 percussion caps, was present at Bull Run, signed for forage for 84 horses 7/21/1861. Present 9/1861. Absent on leave 12/22/1861.
Signed for forage for 88 horses Stone Bridge 1/14/1862 and for 61 horses 2/2/1862. Absent on recruiting duty 2/24/1862-2/28/1862. Paid in Richmond 3/7/1862. He retired at regimental reorganization 4/22/62. He served as Enrolling Officer for Conscript Bureau. Requested permission to raise a regiment of cavalry from Lynchburg and surrounding counties from men between the ages 16-18 and 45-56 on July 1, 1863.
My hobby is genealogy, and to some degree I am a family historian. I am also a certified Security Unarmed Officer, and was about to get my armed certification before the vehicle
accident. According to my horoscope I found online, it told me that I need to be careful
driving, or I would be an accident.
