Short stories: The office mystery

"The computer glitch"

Characters:Mary Bloom,Charles the CEO,Mark the Controller,Francis
the Computer Tech.

Mary Bloom had driven her self to work that morning, avoiding the
crowds on the transit bus.She liked to drive when she could but
having one car,her husband had the car most days because of his
commute to his far away job in another town.

Mary was a religious woman, and would go by the parish every day
for communion then stand at the chilly bus stop to wait for her
bus.It was routine most days and she was a regular at the bus
stop and had made many friends there that commutated just as she
did.

Mary was a Marketer for a up and coming business that dealt in
subsides. Her boss Mark, was the controller in her office. He shared
this title and marketed too.Mary and mark did not get along very
well and he always seemed to have it in for her.She never knew
why he disliked her and she refused to ask.

Today in the office was going to be a busy day,Mary had a lot of
marketing to do and started her work immediately. She knew she was
the slowest marketer in the office, but she was thorough and did
very good work.Mary knew her flaws better than any one.She figured
her thorough work was what kept her in good graces with Charles
the company CEO.

Charles was a easy going man, every one liked him and got along
with him well.Mary had seen his temper flare,in only two occasions.
One was for catching an employee lying and the other was for taking
to many coffee breaks when they were trying to make a deadline.

Francis the computer tech in the office was Mary's best friend, they
often had lunch together, and attended the same Parish of worship. She
would bring Mary a box of floppy disk a day to keep her from
bothering Mark.Francis and Mary had talked often about his demeanor
in the office. Both women tried to stay out of Marks way.

The day had progressed in to a chaotic turmoil,as the deadline was
fast approaching and it was almost time to go home.Mary knew her
pace was slow and she worked right on through lunch.Francis would
bring her something back from the Deli.Mary stayed focused and looked
busy as she would stop ever so often to click the mouse at her PC.

Mark had been watching her much to closely today.Mary could tell he
was irate at having to make up the time she lost.He was frantically
pecking away at his computer.Trying to get his quota done so he could
help the others.Mark was fast and could
