It is important to remember that the download of full version games from the Internet for free is very much illegal. A number of commentators here have mentioned that warez and p2p clients have been taken down, but they have failed to mention that they were forcibly taken down by the authorities as they provided a medium for illegal downloads.
Without being a killjoy, I feel that it is important that we don't discard the wellbeing of the computer games industry simply in order to gratify our gaming needs. Admittedly games today are sold at large profit, but it is important to remember that a substantial amount of that profit will be used by the developer to ultimately create better games.
Negligence of this fact through continuing to download illegal versions of games is detrimental on a number of counts. On a personal level, though money is clearly saved, some game features may be blocked. As practices like illegal downloading have become more prevalent in previous years, game companies have developed systems trying to counteract it, and one is to force the game to be registered on-line, certainly before Internet play can be enabled.
Additionally, you must remember that by illegally downloading games, you are committing an illegal act, a criminal offence which only you can be held accountable.
Looking at the situation from a positive point of view, if you insist on attaining your game in data format rather than CD or DVD, a number of LEGAL download sites exist on the web, who will sell the game at a reduced price as you aren't paying for the optical media of packaging etc. and, by this means, the industry won't suffer.
So remember, before you go to a Torrent and download the latest title for free: It's Illegal. By doing it, you are a committing a criminal offence; you become a thief. You put yourself at risk to the law. Additionally, it's morally wrong. You are actively harming the industry whose work has brought you countless hours of enjoyment. So think about it!
