My McDonald experience takes place on the other side of the counter. I have worked at the fast food chain for about 6 months now. At first the job was exciting and I looked forward to it, now it is a huge pain and frustrating and the only thing keeping me there is the awesome crew. Working the front counter is extremely frustrating, and making orders, after order, gets very stressful.
I almost always work first booth now (in the drive-thru). Some annoying things are when you are asked for a happy meal. Firstly What kind of happy meal, and what drink would you like. Followed by the dreadful toy, boy or girl, do you have any others? Do you have any X left?. The worst has to be when someone comes in with a diesel truck, and leaves it running, All you can hear is the rumble through the headset, its not like I am standing there. On odd occasions you will get customers so mad that they will try to start fist fights because you made a mistake on there order. A huge pain in the ass is the old ladies (never seems to be men) who drive right past the microphone straight to first booth, or even worse second.
Please read these tips to make you're stressed out server's life a little easier.
Service:
1. If you want a meal, Say you want a meal. Then what drink you want.
"I will have a Big Mac meal with a Sprite"
2. If you want it upsized say so before
"Ill have an Upsized Big Mac meal with a Sprite"
3. If you want your burger modified say so within the same breath (Save the hassle of "0'ing" out the burger that has been modified, just so he/she can re punch in the meal deal)
"Big Mac meal, No lettuce or Mac sauce, Sprite to drink"
4. The #6 meal (Chicken nuggets) Comes in 4-6-10 or 20(No meal)
"I will get a 10 peace nugget meal"
5. One thing that makes me want to hit a customer is "No salt on my fries" it is annoying and if you are that concerned about your salt intake, maybe you shouldn't be eating at McDonalds. Also, the process of using a tray to put the fries on is not clean, at all.
6. Don't tell us how to do our job.
"Just take those fries sitting there"
Payment:
1. When inside at front counter don't give us your debit card, we don't care, the machine to swipe is right in front of you.
2. Say the total is 12.50 don't give us a 20, then as I shut the drawer decide you have 50 cents to balance it out.
3. Please don't pay with pennies and nickels, please.
4. Some times the receipt machines break/glitch, I know computers doing stuff like this is unheard of but it happens, and there is nothing we can do about it.
Other:
1. Bad service, Crappy food, long wait. That sucks, but it aint always going to be good, don't announce to the manager that we lost a customer because in all honesty, We don't give a damn. Customers are not a problem, not when you have 4 hour rush hours lined up out the door/parking lot.
2. Is it really that hard to take your tray with your garbage and throw it out, sure "We get paid to do it" but when you make under 12.00 dollars an hour and your doing this kind of work, are we really getting paid, or is it just an altruistic act that if not followed, will result in T9.
3. When in the Drive-Thru, pull up as close as you can to the car in front of you (Comfortably), even if it wont speed up your time, it will give a car enough space to place an order, in the long run if followed, saving you minutes, and the cashier's sanity.
Thank you
