Cruises: One good way to enjoy retirement

Mexican Riviera tour:

Planning a cruise is a job in itself, but my wife has always been a great organizer. She was always well prepared when we went on vacation. This time she was planning a cruise on the fun ship the Carnival Cruise Lines. She had invited several friends and relatives to accompany us. Meeting at our home in Temecula, California. She had a limousine service pick us up and carry us to the ocean front where we boarded the ship. We were signed on to take the Mexican Riviera tour.

Before setting sail we were instructed to meet at a certain room inside the ship where a Steward informed everyone what to expect while on the cruise. He spoke about all the different activities that were awaiting us. He ended his orientation with the procedure of response in case of an unforeseen disaster.

Our group split up and everyone went their own way, to meet again at the dinner table. This worked well for everyone to do what they preferred. There was a swimming pool, spa, golf driving with lessons, live game shows, gambling casinos, Dancing and music. It's party time, all the time.

We often met with the others to take in a game show. The contestants names were drawn from a container. People would fill out a card with the name of a friend or of themselves to be put into a cage that mixed up the cards the MC would have some one draw out a name and that person would be a contestant on the show. My wife was surprised to hear her name called. She is not a person to be in the spotlight. She was a good sport and took to the stage. She knew who to get even with. A few games later the culprit, her friend had her name called. Both ladies did quite well in the game and won some prizes.

Our first stop was near the town of Puerto Vallarta, on the Mexican Riviera. The town was quite large with beautiful painted pottery lining the front of buildings. Open front stores, selling everything from clothes to machinery. We walked along the cobblestone streets and gazed at the red and purple flowers that decorated the properties. The sea gave off a grayish purple blue hue against the gold sand beaches. It was a beautiful sight. One could rent bikes or stroll to places where you could visit with dolphins, humpback whales and manta ray. You could take a mountain bike, walk or horseback ride in the grassy Sierra Madres.

On our time schedule we could only see the sights and browse the shops for souvenirs. Someday I would like to return and spend more time there.
