Trout fishing what a blast! The funnest part for me has been trying out different baits to catch the beautiful illusive yet yummy fish. After experimenting with different colors, textures, and scents over the years only three have proved to help me catch some amazing trout. Being a Zeb-co fisher-gal with a bobber has even kept it more interesting. I get some strange looks from the guys until the results are in.
First it's off to the local bait and tackle joint to purchase a trout stamp to go with my fishing license. Then folks it's off to the grocery store. Yep, I said grocery store. After filling my cart up with healthy easy to eat treats for the day I purchase some bait. The list hasn't changed in sometime and is effective: (2) cans of corn, (1) package of multi-color/flavor mini marshmallows, and (1)pack of watermelon bubble gum. It's as easy as 1,2,3 and on the wallet.
Once set up, seasoning the water with (1) can of corn occurs to welcome fish honorably. While the corn is seasoning within the casting area, prepare a hook with about 1/2 piece of watermelon bubble gum, and (3)or (4) pieces of corn securely and cast it out. Quickly prepare the second hook with 1/2 piece of watermelon bubble gum and (2) or (3) mini-marshmallows securely and cast it out. You wont have to wait long so keep your eye on your lines or (as in my case) bobbers.
Every fisherman has a fish tale to tell about the size of fish, etc...but not all are willing to share their most effective baits. Honestly, fish are sensitive to so many things whether it be smell, sound, or color to lure them into taking the bait. The baits mentioned above are no laughing joke and corn is very commonly used for trout fishing. The other two listed above were discovered through trial, error, and the beer budget fishing allowance I grew up on.
So, what is holding you back? How goofy it sounds? Is it, me, the author of this article and the type of gear I use? Well, then give it a try and be amazed of the results. Feast on some trout caught using bait tips provided above.
Happy Trout Fishing and Good Luck.
